One Thursday evening after work, I sat down with beer and travel writer Josh Noel and taste-tested over 20 different pumpkin brews.
Setting aside my previous knowledge of pumpkin beer, I went in with a clear palate and open mind. To my delight, the beers varied in color, sweetness and autumn spice. Surprisingly, for such a specific type of beer, the flavors varied drastically.
There was a clear favorite, however, the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale drew us in with its spicy aroma and perfection in flavor.
A couple of other suds like Hoppin Frog Frog’s Hollow Double Pumpkin Ale topped the list, while the sticky sweetness of Southern Tier’s Pumpking failed to impress us. To see if your favorite made the list, check out the article found here, in the Chicago Tribune.
